Hennessey: Peter pushed Schmeichel Jr hard at Man City

Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has revealed how Peter Schmeichel would coach his son Kasper when the two were together with Manchester City's academy.

"Schmeichel is obviously doing quite well at Manchester City now so I'm pleased for him in a way," said Hennessey. "All goalkeepers stick together so it's nice to see him doing well.

"He had his moments but he was a good friend.

"In a way you could see that his dad was forcing him. He'd come and watch the training session and he'd take his son to one side and say 'Do this, do that'.

"But I'm happy for him. It's not easy to get through to the Premier League. He's done really well and worked really hard to get there, plus he'd have had to impress Sven."

On his experience at City, Hennessey added: "I only got offered a year and he (Schmeichel) was offered three years so it was a family decision and we just got up and left.

"I'd have been second choice and just been sitting on the bench for the academy.

"If I'd had a year all the scholarships would have been taken at other clubs.

"So I said 'No', went to Wolves and got a three-year scholarship here."
