Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson admits thinking about succeeding Steven Gerrard as club captain.
Gerrard, 34, is leaving Anfield at the end of the season to join LA Galaxy.
"Stevie goes to America and we will decide who's going to be the next captain, but that's not up to me, it's up to the manager," Henderson tells The Times.
"It will be a huge honour regardless of who's been captain in the past or who might be in the future.
"There's never going to be another Steven Gerrard. In my time here I've learnt a lot from him, not only as a player but as a person. The manager brought me into the office one day and said he'd been thinking about making me vice-captain for some time.
"He asked if I'd like to think about it, but I told him I didn't need any time because it would be a massive honour. I think I've taken to the role well, I haven't changed much but I've taken more responsibility in helping the young lads."
