Heerenveen winger Beerens spurns Wigan interest to remain in Holland
Roy Beerens claims he turned down offers from Wigan and Championship Nottingham Forest in favour of a move to AZ Alkmaar. The 23-year-old Heerenveen winger is poised to join AZ on a four-year deal worth 1.6million euros after undergoing a medical on Monday, according to reports in the Dutch media.
"But AZ was my first choice from the beginning."
He added: "The team operates in the opposition's half and takes initiative. The transfer is a step up and the game suits me. You do not know how delighted I am."
