Heerenveen defender Wout Faes discusses rejecting Chelsea: They could come back

Heerenveen defender Wout Faes has spoken of turning down a move to Chelsea as a youth teamer.

Faes is on-loan at Heerenveen from Anderlecht, though was offered the chance to move to Chelsea as a 16 year-old in 2013 while with Lierse.

He recalled to Sport/Voetbalmagazine: "Of course it is not easy to say no to Chelsea, but I wanted more than to be a simple academy player. They're a club which can buy any player in the world.

"What if one day they say: sorry, we do not see it anymore in you?

"I want to succeed first at Anderlecht and within a number of years they may still come and get me."

Chelsea sent Faes a David Luiz signed shirt on his 16th birthday.

"That was a charm offensive to lure me there. Thanks to my entourage, I was able to quickly get a reality check."
