Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Alan Shearer becoming Cardiff City manager after heavy betting on the Newcastle and England legend. Watford boss Malky Mackay is still the favourite but, after a series of reasonably high bets were placed on Shearer, the odds have narrowed on the former international striker.
"We began to see bets for Shearer on Monday night and soon noticed that almost all of them - and they were for up to 200 euros a time - were coming from the Cork area," William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said.
"We reduced the odds but the bets continued to come in and eventually we began to see money from other areas.
"The gamble has continued on Tuesday morning and we wouldn't be surprised to see Shearer become favourite over Malky Mackay very shortly."
