Hearts players to receive salaries as soon as possible

Heart of Midlothian players will receive their unpaid salaries as soon as possible according to a spokesman.

The Edinburgh club were 19 days late with the October wage payments for senior players and have again gone over the due date for November's payments but after settling a £1million tax bill with HM Revenue and Customs are close to getting the funds together to give to those owed.

"We expect salaries to be paid into the senior players' accounts at the earliest opportunity and have informed the players of this," said a club spokesman.

"The club is experiencing an income shortfall due to lower than expected transfer monies. Our future funding is secure but requires time to be organised.

"The club also unfortunately failed to reach agreement with HMRC which would have allowed it time to pay a tax bill in excess of £1million. That was settled in full (on Monday).

"As such we are currently looking at options to identify new income opportunities and obtain funding for the players' salaries."
