Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov has revealed he could have bought Liverpool.
Romanov revealed the Anfield club was offered to him for £200million back in 2005.
He said: "In 2005, my club Kaunas was playing Liverpool in the Champions League qualifiers.
"David Moores, who then owned Liverpool, suggested that I bought it for £200m.
"I came over and checked what was on offer. The price was realistic, a serious piece of real estate, star players.
"I got scared. By that time I had been beaten black and blue over Hearts in Scotland where they pictured me as an idiot.
"I thought that if I got hold of such a brand as Liverpool they'd drive me to an early grave."
Romanov regrets passing up the offer. He said: "Naturally. Six months later Moores sold it for £400m. The price doubled."
