The Scotsman says the Celtic striker's name has been mentioned among Tynecastle coaching staff as a possible solution to their quest for a proven goalscorer.
Riordan joined Celtic in the summer of 2006 a couple of months before his contract was due to expire at Easter Road, but despite scoring more than 60 goals in the previous three seasons with Hibs, he has failed to command a regular first-team place under Gordon Strachan's management at Parkhead.
