Heart of Midlothian have opened negotiations with Newcastle United regarding Ian Cathro, according to Sky Sports.
The Scottish Premiership club want the Magpies assistant to replace Robbie Neilson at Tynecastle after he departed for the MK Dons job.
Cathro, 30, joined the Toon when Steve McClaren took over at St James' Park last summer and stayed on after Rafa Benitez took the role in March.
Hearts' director of football Craig Levein is eager to reunite with Cathro after the highly-rated coach worked with Dundee United's youth setup during his time as senior manager at Tannadice.
Cathro has been in the coaching game since 2008 and has experienced in Europe as assistant at Portuguese club Rio Ave and Spanish side Valencia.
