Hearts defender McGowan pondering switch to Scotland

Heart of Midlothian's Ryan McGowan admits he is considering a possible switch of allegiance from Australia to Scotland.

The 22-year old defender has represented the Socceroos at all youth levels but has yet to play for the seniors and he says he is pondering a Scotland switch as his parents were born in the country.

"Yeah, I've thought about playing for Scotland instead of Australia," McGowan said.

"But I'm not really going to put too much thought into it until I get a concrete offer.

"I need to find out if Scotland want me or don't want me.

"All my family - mum and dad, uncles and aunties - were born in Scotland.

"My folks would be very proud if I played for Scotland. But they will leave it up to me on who I want to play for.

"They will be behind me 100 per cent whoever I chose."
