Former Tottenham midfielder Micky Hazard says they cannot afford to lose Jermain Defoe.
Defoe is being linked with Toronto FC.
"I think Jermain Defoe is the best substitute in the Premier League," he told talkSPORT. "When he comes on he always scores.
"As a club we should move Heaven and Earth to keep him. I'd be absolutely shocked to see him go to Toronto. I think there are lot more years left in him at the very top in the Premier League.
"I wouldn't be shocked if he went to find first-team football elsewhere in the Premier League but to leave England at this age and with so much ability, I'd be very surprised and disappointed."
