Hat-trick hero van Persie revels in Man Utd title triumph - 'I'm happy but it is weird'

Robin van Persie said it was a great feeling to finally clinch a Premier League title after helping Manchester United to the 2012/13 title on Monday night.

The former Arsenal star, who arrived in England from Feyenoord in 2004, finally managed to salute in the top flight after netting a hat-trick as United beat Aston Villa 3-0 to move 16 points clear of Manchester City, securing their 20th title.

van Persie, who has notched 25 goals in his debut campaign at Old Trafford, admitted it was a slightly weird feeling to win the championship after so long but he was certainly revelling in the triumph.

"It doesn't matter who scored, as long as we won the game. From the first minute, everyone played well and it was great to score so early and a great win for us," he told Sky Sports.

"I am very happy but it is weird. I had to wait so long for my first title. It is a great feeling. It is a fantastic team and fantastic players.

"It is a championship for every single one of them. The staff, the managers, the physios. This is our 20th title, it is deserved."
