Wantaway Bristol City midfielder Paul Hartley is also a transfer target for Aberdeen. Hartley has been strongly linked with a return to former club Hearts but Dons boss Mark McGhee is keen on recruiting the 33-year-old.

McGhee is interested in the veteran, although he also has his eyes on Lee Hendrie should he fail to lure Hartley to Pittodrie.

"We need to add more experience to the squad and Hendrie or Hartley would give us that," McGhee told the Daily Record.

"But whether we sign Hendrie will be influenced by a lot of things, including how we get on with Hartley.

"We have been told there is a chance of getting him and we are pursuing it. We will now approach the player and his agent and see what comes of it. We do not know at this stage what else has been offered to Hartley."
