Portsmouth boss Paul Hart was delighted to deliver a winning performance against Sunderland on Monday night.
He said: "I'm pleased for the supporters. Our duty to them is huge. We had our duty to the fans and to the integrity of the Premier League.
"I thought we did our job. We injected a bit of life into it in the second half. We've put ourselves on the line, so I'm glad we did our jobs properly.
"I said weeks ago we needed to battle until the end of the season. It's understandable to relax, but I'm just glad they have retained the desire to get results."
