Harry Souttar scored his first goal for Stoke City U23 in victory over West Brom yesterday.
The former Dundee United defender struck the winner for the 2-1 result.
"I wanted to score. I've not scored all season, so it was nice to get one," Souttar told The Sentinel. "There was nothing else on so I kept driving. I continued the run and I was thankful when it went in because I was blowing after the run!"
And Souttar acknowledges that Hughes' belief in youth proves that good performances will be rewarded with a call up to the first team.
He added: "It's an incentive for all of us. We know there's a path there so we've just got to work hard for it."
