Steve Harper has returned to Newcastle United.

The Evening Chronicle says the long-serving goalkeeper has spent a month on loan with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Championship but that deal has not been extended.

It is believed that Brighton wanted to extend the deal until January, however United boss Alan Pardew was cautious about the hectic December period in which the Magpies face six tough games.
