Newcastle United "stopped the rot" after drawing at Birmingham City on Monday, says goalkeeper Steve Harper.

Harper told the Evening Chronicle: "It would have been nice to go on and win the game, but it was important not to lose it.

"When people have been pointing fingers and asking questions, it's good to show that character to get back in the game.

"We were slightly disappointed not to have won the game, but it was a big point. It stops the rot, but it will mean nothing if we don't win against Fulham.

"Hopefully, with the fans behind us, we will have three more points by 5pm on Saturday."
