Hargreaves: Man Utd skipper will only be appreciated when he retires

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes Wayne Rooney's talent will only be fully appreciated after he has hung up the boots.

Speaking to BT Sport after Rooney's quiet performance in United's 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, Hargreaves said he felt the England international's impact on matches is underestimated.

"I don't think he's appreciated enough. He's massively undervalued," Hargreaves said.

"To do what he's done at 29 and become England's all-time top scorer, he will be appreciated when he retires.

"People will realise what a super player he was. He has everything and this is still Wayne Rooney's team and United need to build the team around him."
