A hamstring injury could see Emile Heskey staying with Wigan Athletic for the remainder of this season.
Heskey has been strongly linked with a move away from Wigan, whom he joined for £5.5m in 2006, during the January transfer window with Liverpool and Aston Villa the rumoured front-runners for his signature. A deal could now be completed for the 30-year-old, whose contract expires this summer, prior to him playing for the Lancashire club again, says the Guardian.
Should the injury be particularly serious, however, any hopes Heskey has of leaving Wigan could be scuppered altogether.
"The good thing is that we have had no bids in for him - or anybody else for that matter," said Latics boss Steve Bruce. "I just hope that continues all through January."
