Hamburg have warned Manchester City there's still some way to go to close a deal for Jerome Boateng.

Bayern Munich were also linked with the Germany international but Eastlands boss Roberto Mancini has won the race for his signature with 20 per cent of any fee going to his former club Hertha Berlin.

A Hamburg spokesman said: "Jorg Neubauer, Jerome Boateng's agent, has informed us that the player wants to move. There is no deal agreed yet, however."
