Hamburg have moved to open new contract talks with Rafael van der Vaart amid interest from Chelsea.

Chelsea have been linked with Van der Vaart in the Italian press this week and with his contract expiring in 2009, Hamburg are anxious to tie him to a new deal.

Bernd Hoffman, president of Hamburg, told Kicker, "I will not surrender. We want to continue to negotiate because we want Rafael to remain with us."
