Hamann: Some Man Utd players will have lost respect for Mourinho

Dietmar Hamann has stated that the Manchester United players will soon start losing respect for Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho has clearly not enjoyed the best of starts to life at United and along with a host of disciplinary problems on the touchline; the Portuguese boss has been unable to get the desired results at Old Trafford so far.

Mourinho has not been helped by his constant chopping and changing of the team as well as public criticism of his own players and former Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Hamann has now gone on to claim that the 53-year-old could well start losing the respect of the United team if things do not improve soon.

Hamann told The Stand podcast: "Well I think the word we should use is respect, you don't lose the dressing room over team selection because they're all professionals and he's got his own ideas, he'll maybe explain it to the players.

"But I think what it is when players lose respect, and it won't be all of them. Some of them might say he's the best manager of the last decade, but other players like Shaw, Smalling and Mkhitaryan that haven't got a look-in, the ones who aren't playing could go against the manager.

"Now he's got the Rooney situation, he won't be happy not playing, even when his form is improving, and then there's things like what he said after the Arsenal game. People will talk about that in the dressing room. What I think it does is you lose respect, and I think players have lost respect.

"How did it manifest, it may not manifest in training, but when it comes to the games against almost every team in the Premier League, two or three percent is all the difference. Then you've got teams like Chelsea and Liverpool who go through walls for their managers. Will these players go through a wall for Mourinho? I've got my doubts.

"I think there's very few who would go through fire for that manager at the moment, hence the performances. Yes they had another good performance, but they didn't have the cutting edge in the end to win the game. Don't forget this was one of their best performances all season, and they still couldn't win that game.

"Eight points off the Champions League places now, a few tough games to come against top teams, so yeah things are not looking good. Once you lose that respect for the manager, there's no way back. I've not seen it a lot in my time as a player fortunately, but there's usually no way back."
