Hamann insists Man City can clinch Euro place

Dietmar Hamann still believes that Manchester City can qualify for the next Uefa Cup.

The German midfielder understands that a win against Sunderland at The Stadium of Light on Saturday would bolster their chances of achieving their aim.

"It's going to be tough, we've had some bad results on the road lately and Sunderland are in a good run of form," he said.

"They only need two or three points to be safe and won at Fulham last week so we know they are going to be a tough proposition.

"Sunderland is always a hard place to go to, but we want to finish the season on a high so we have to get three points to keep that chance of Europe alive."

Hamann knows that City could qualify for the Uefa Cup thanks to the Fair Play Route, but he is keen to earn the right to play in Europe next season.

"We know about the Fair Play route, but we want to finish as high as possible to make sure of getting into Europe," he added. "We can't just rely on the Fair Play league, we've got 15 points to play for so if we get as many of them as we can then we are giving ourselves a good chance."
