Manchester City midfielder Didi Hamann says their 2-2 draw with Newcastle United was an important lesson.

He told City's website: "You've got to make your own luck and over the course of a season it always levels itself out.

"We just didn't keep the ball well enough in the first half, should have scored the second goal, had a couple of chances to and we couldn't get the job done.

"Virtually with their first or second shot on goal just before half time we got punished. In the second half they defended a bit deeper and made it harder for us.

"Then again we didn't keep the ball well enough and didn't create enough chances to really deserve to win the game."
