Former referee Mark Halsey has expressed his bemusement at the poor standards of officiating in the Premier League this season.
The previous Premier League game-week was marred by a number of questionable refereeing decisions, with the clash between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur as well as the one played out by Arsenal and Burnley, both being filled with controversy.
Ex-ref Halsey has now stated that he has been left surprised by the poor officiating standards in England's top flight in recent weeks and has insisted that the entire English Football League needs a revamp in regards to the refereeing training system.
Halsey said during his appearance on talkSPORT's Kick Off on Monday: "Something has to drastically be done with the standard of our officiating at the top level.
"We all make mistakes, but the scale they're being made on now is week in, week out.
"Something has to fundamentally change with our elite referees. But it's not just at the elite level!
"'ve seen Football League referees – I go along to Bury and watch the referees there, and go to other clubs and watch the referees there – and it's all the way down!"
