Hajduk Split's Skoko on verge of Melbourne Heart deal

Melbourne Heart are on the verge of signing Hajduk Split midfielder Josip Skoko.

The former Australia international has been in Croatia since 2008 after finishing his time in England which was spent with Wigan Athletic and Stoke City, commencing in 2005.

Heart CEO Scott Munn confirmed that a deal for the 34-year old was definitely on the cards.

"We're close," Munn said of a potential Skoko deal. "He's still playing in Croatia and he's focused on that."

Skoko began his professional career with Hajduk in 1995 before spending about four seasons in Belgium with RacingGenk. In 2003 he moved to Turkey to join Genclerbirligi where he became somewhat of a pioneer for Australians playing in the Turkish Super Lig.

His career then took him to the English Premier League where he made close to 50 appearances for the Latics. He also represented Australia on 51 occasions.
