Marcus Hahnemann is delighted to be have landed a contract with Everton at the age of 39.

Hahnemann admits he is fortunate to be enjoying a unexpected stay in the Premier League this season, after being released by Wolves last term and then recruited at the last minute by David Moyes to add experience to his goalkeeping ranks.

"We were looking for a good situation to go to. I had an opportunity to go back to the MLS but that wouldn't have happened until January, and there were a few other balls rolling but nothing materialised," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"I ended up booking flights to go back to the States, all our stuff was in storage and we gave up our rental house and were staying with some friends.

"Then my agent came back and said 'Do you fancy Everton?' and I said: "Matthew, yes, let's go." It was fantastic."
