Jonas Gutierrez is delighted that Newcastle United will be competing in the Europa League next season.
The Argentine winger was a key part of the Magpies side which finished fifth in the Premier League last term and he is now excited about stepping into the relative unknown when Europe's second tier club competition kicks off next term.
"When you think back to what people were saying about us at the start of last season, it is a huge statement. Nobody expected us to get there.
"There were a lot of changes in the dressing room and a lot of new players who came in but we had a really good season.
"It was always in our hands to get a place and we managed it."
He added: "At Real Mallorca I didn't play in Europe. This will be my first time.
"When you sign for a club like Newcastle you always hope to play.""It's really important that we have made it into Europe," he told the Chronicle Live.
