Guthrie: Newcastle good enough to match Tottenham

Danny Guthrie says Newcastle United are confident of matching Harry Redknapp's Tottenham.

Newcastle, who beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday, travel to White Hart Lane ­aiming to be party-poopers after Spurs boss ­Redknapp was cleared of tax ­evasion.

“Regardless of who’s in and who’s out, Spurs is a great game,” said Guthrie. “We know how good they are at home, but there is a lot of grit and resolve about us these days and we’ve set ourselves up nicely with two wins in a row.

“We won’t be going there scared or ­worried about them. The midfield is looking a bit unfam­iliar right now, but confidence-wise, we couldn’t be any higher at the moment. Against Villa, we had Perchy sitting in, which allowed me a little more freedom to go ahead and create for the team.

“We’re a more solid unit than we have previously been and in Alan Pardew we’ve got a manager who isn’t afraid to change things at half-time if it’s not going quite right. He did that against ­Villa and I think it had a big ­effect – it was little things, just changing the shape of the team slightly.”
