Danny Guthrie was delighted for Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear after their victory over West Brom.
"He took a bit of stick when he first came," he told The Journal. "I'm just delighted we have got our first win for him.
"He can put all the early criticism behind him, like we can. The players have never had a problem with Joe.
"There was instant respect when he came in.
"We could have read everything written about him - some players might have done - but he was a new manager and he got instant respect.
" The manager picks the team, you have to respect them, whoever it is."
