Ilkay Gundogan admits Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp convinced him about a move to Manchester City.

Gundogan, 25, played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and asked the Liverpool boss if he thought the move would suit him.

He said: "I asked if the Premier League was the right thing for me.

"He (Klopp) said 'yes' and believed I would feel very well here and that the playing style would be perfect for me. It was good to have my impressions confirmed."

Gundogan, who has won 16 international caps, will come up against Klopp on New Year's Eve when Guardiola's men make the trip to Anfield.
