Gudjohnsen urges Tottenham players to embrace exciting week ahead

Eidur Gudjohnsen has urged Tottenham teammates to embrace their Champions League run in.

A championship and multi-cup winner with both Chelsea and Barcelona, including lifting the Champions League with Barca last season, Gudjohnsen knows exactly what it takes to get over the finishing line in these situations.

"This is what football's about - I'm lucky enough to have been in this position throughout my career," he told the Spurs website. "The lads have handled it well because for many of them it's the first time they've been in this position.

"We've progressed well in the last few weeks. Arsenal and Chelsea were massive results not just because of winning, but the way in which we played.

"We now go into the last three games and it's in our hands to hold onto that fourth spot."

Spurs kick-off the final week of the campaign at home to Gudjohnsen's former club Bolton on Saturday. They then travel to City on Wednesday before the season's finale at Burnley on Sunday week, May 9.

"It's mainly a mental thing (at this stage)," added the on-loan Monaco forward. "We need to be strong enough characters, to look at ourselves and be big enough players and a big enough team to take that last step, to get in fourth and stay there.

"There's a lovely prize at the end of it - the Champions League - and there is no bigger or better competition to be in than that. We all realise that and we are all going to do everything we can to do it."
