Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola admits they need to buy this summer to compete for all available trophies. With Porto defender Bruno Alves looming large as a potential first close-season signing for the Treble winners, Guardiola says: "The timetable for the coming year will be extremely full.

"There will be almost no time to train, and the season will be shorter because of the World Cup. There will be almost 70 games to play and I think a larger size squad would be appropriate for the situation.

"It is always necessary to bring in new players."
