Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola says they see the Primera Liga as more important than the Champions League.
Barca took both trophies last season, as part of an historic Treble, and are keen to ensure that both remain at Camp Nou.
However, with Real Madrid currently leading the way in the league, Guardiola admits seeing off the challenge of Barca's arch-rivals remains his top priority this year.
"The main target this season is not to win the Champions League, but to retain the Liga title," he said.
"I never discount anything but it is clear that if we do not do well in domestic competition, we will not achieve much in Europe.
"The Liga is our main objective because I have demanded the maximum from my players in every match.
"If we are not able to maintain these levels throughout the season things will get complicated."
