Guangzhou's Griffiths: Yakubu says there are a lot of players eyeing China

Guangzhou R&F striker Rostyn Griffiths says new teammate Yakubu Aiyegbeni told him that plenty of players are looking to come to China.

The Nigerian ace left Blackburn Rovers to join the Chinese Super League club recently and revealed to his Australian mate that there are a few others in the same boat as himself and Shanghai Shenhua pair Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba who both departed Chelsea for China's top flight.

"Yakubu reckons a lot of players he has played with are trying to get to China," Griffiths told au.fourfourtwo.com. "I read that Drogba was saying the same thing.

"Hopefully that's the case because they certainly have everything to make the Chinese league very strong and able to attract big players.

"Of course the league is getting a lot of hype because of Yakubu's signing and the likes of Drogba. I think in China there is a feeling that it's only going to get better.

"They're talking about extending the amount of foreign players to six in each team."

Yakubu marked his arrival in the CSL with a late winner on debut for R&F in the weekend's Guangzhou derby against Marcello Lippi's Evergrande side. The win allowed R&F to move up to fifth, nine points behind league leaders Evergrande.
