Guangzhou's Diamanti a World Cup certainty says ex-Italy boss Lippi

Guangzhou Evergrande boss Marcello Lippi is confident that Alessandro Diamanti will make Italy's World Cup squad.

The 31-year old attacking midfielder was left out of Cesare Prandelli's Azzurri squad for a friendly with Spain in March but 2006 World Cup winning-coach Lippi believes he will have no trouble making the final roster for Brazil even after making the move to China.

"He's been an Italy international for the last three years and this time he was not picked because now he is based in Asia and it was not worth it to make such a journey just for a friendly," Lippi said.

"I don't know what Prandelli is thinking but, for me, Diamanti is definitely going to Brazil."

Since joining Guangzhou from Bologna in February, Diamanti has made 13 appearances and scored four goals for the reigning Chinese Super League and Asian Champions League winners.
