Christian Gross turned down the job at Southampton, it has been revealed.

The Daily Mail says former Tottenham manager Gross had agreed to replace Nigel Adkins at St Mary's.

But a last-minute change of heart from the Swiss boss secured a stay of execution, and Southampton's form picked up.

But Adkins was sacked yesterday and quickly replaced by Mauricio Pochettino.
