Griffiths deal could be nice windfall for Gold Coast

The impending transfer of Adam Griffiths to Saudi Arabian club Al Shabab will net Gold Coast United a nice windfall. The 29-year old defender is in Bahrain completing a medical and according to reports is on the verge of signing a $650,000 one-year deal.

If the deal goes ahead, Gold Coast United will collect a cool $800,000 for Griffiths who cost them nothing when he joined from Newcastle Jets during pre-season which coach Miron Bleiberg says would be too good to pass up.

"There is no emergency, we wouldn't have let him go if we didn't have the players to replace him,'' Bleiberg said.

"Take nothing away from Adam, he was one of our best players (against Brisbane Roar) at the weekend.

"But when you get offered this amount of money, it's too good to refuse. It's a good deal for the club, and a good chance for a player who's about to turn 30. If it happens, we wish him all the best.''
