Gretna facing closure

The club needs the money for wages and to pay for the away trip to Aberdeen on Saturday. Administrators, Wilson Field Limited, say the club faces closure unless short-term funding is put in place.

"We need to find £30,000 to enable the club to fulfil its fixture on Saturday. That is emergency funding for wages and overnight stay and transport.

Unless Gretna get £30,000 by lunchtime tomorrow the club is finished," said David Elliot of Wilson Field Limited.

Even if a solution is reached, there will be no guarantee of survival for Gretna who face pressure from a number of creditors.

"The club is under immense pressure from creditors. The main creditor is the Inland Revenue who are owed £350,000 by the club and it was their intention to take that debt to court on Monday (10th March).

"The notice of intention to go into administration has prevented the Inland Revenue from taking the matter to court," Elliot added.
