Gretna eyeing ex-Newcastle keeper Caig

Gretna are continuing their search for a new goalkeeper.

"We have to resolve the goalkeeper situation," interim manager David Irons told BBC Sport."We have spoken about Zibi [Malkowski] and we have one other option."

Gretna have been exploring the possibility of signing up former Hibs keeper Tony Caig, who has playing in Canada with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

And Irons indicated that a new number one would be at the club by the end of next week.

As well as a goalkeeper, Irons said the club were searching for at least one defender and a striker.

"We have four players coming in next week and we'll have a real good look at them," he continued.

Gretna have recruited three new faces over the summer, including Uruguayan midfielder Fabian Yantorno.

"Bringing in any player is a gamble," added Irons. "You just hope they settle in.

"The first impressions of Fabian are good. The players have taken to him, he's a good player and he's ambitious.

"He could be a real asset to Gretna Football Club."
