Grayson frustrated with officials as Leeds held at home

Leeds boss Simon Grayson felt let down with a number of refereeing decisions following his side's scoreless home draw with Ipswich. Ipswich keeper Martin Fulop was the visitor's hero but it was the referee's performance which took centre stage.

Grayson said: "He (Darren Deadman) told me he felt his decisions were right and that I was wrong. Referees frustrate you at times. We had a really strong penalty claim.

"One of their lads had his hands down by his side but when Andy O'Brien had a shot the lad's arms came up to prevent the ball being goalbound.

"Refereeing is a difficult job but they have to be strong because it is a difficult place to referee at this club.

"(Ipswich manager) Paul Jewell will be happy and we were frustrated by a few of the decisions.

"We passed the ball well and defended well but we didn't get the breaks in the 18 yard box."

Leeds are fifth in the Championship table and Grayson believes nothing will be decided until the final game of the season.

"I think the promotion issue will go to the wire," he added. "Other results have gone for us to a certain degree and we know what we have to do to finish in the play-offs or clinch automatic promotion.

"If you don't win a game, a goalless draw is the next best thing. I was pleased that we limited Ipswich to very few chances."

Understandably Ipswich manager Paul Jewell was pleased to leave Elland Road with a point.

Jewell said: "I thought the referee was good. You know what Leeds are like, they want a penalty every time the ball goes in the box.

"They have a passionate crowd. I wouldn't say they can influence referees, just twist their arm!

"Gareth McAuley had five stitches in his ear (after a clash with Billy Paynter) but I didn't see the incident. Kieron Dyer showed flashes of skill and quality (after joining on an initial month's loan from West Ham).

"It was his first game for a while and, considering the pace and toughness of the game, he stood up well to it. I am delighted to have him. He will be a bit stiff in the morning but we will see how he is.

"I am pleased with a point at Leeds. It was a scrappy game on a difficult pitch and our defence was excellent because Leeds are a team that can score loads of goals."
