Aston Villa No2 Peter Grant says the players know they must win back the support of the fans.
Villa were booed on the final whistle as they exited the Carling Cup to Bolton - and Grant insists he can understand the frustration of supporters following the loss.
He says there is a collective desire to ensure fans are smiling again in the coming weeks.
He told Villa's website: "We can understand how frustrated the fans were and, of course, that is important.
"What they think and how they feel is the most important thing of all because they are the lifeblood of any football club.
"We know about the history and heritage of Aston Villa and what a proud club it is and how proud the supporters are.
"So our priority, every day, is to do our best to make sure we are sending them home on a Saturday teatime or a Tuesday evening, or whenever the game is played, with big smiles on their faces.
