West Ham United boss Avram Grant wants fans to lay off Luis Boa Morte.
The Portuguese star was jeered then ironically cheered when he was subbed with Hammers 1-0 down in the second half of their Carling Cup win over Stoke City.
Boss Grant said: "Boa worked very hard, he was one of the players who tried to play. But any player can have an off-day and fans have to be patient.
"We have showed this season we are better when the fans get behind the team. I would ask them to get behind Boa.
"Ninety five per cent of the time they are brilliant and support us well."
