New West Ham United boss Avram Grant is demanding Matthew Upson and Jonathan Spector make up their minds over new contract offers.
Central defender Upson is stalling on the offer of a new three-year deal, raising fears he could leave for nothing when his contract expires at the end of next season.
Co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold are worried by that prospect and one of Grant's first tasks will be to tell the England defender to sign the new deal or leave the club.
Liverpool are interested in Upson but that deal is in doubt due to Rafa Benitez's departure.
USA international Spector was the target of boo-boys last season after a string of poor displays at right-back.
