West Ham United boss Avram Grant was delighted with how his side responded to defeat Stoke City 3-1 in the Carling Cup.
The Hammers fell behind in the 6th minute when Potters striker Kenwyne Jones headed home Jermaine Pennant's cross but they managed to fight back to score three goals in the second half, allowing them to move into the final eight of the competition.
"We didn't start the game well but the reaction in the second half was great," he said.
"We played well, we dominated the game, and we scored three goals."
Grant also said that this performance shows the football community that West Ham are a capable team despite some negative results in recent times.
"I must say that the second half Saturday (in the loss to Newcastle), it was not good," the Israeli added.
"But if you see all our games - the last six, seven games - it was the exception.
"You want to show that it's the exception.
"We spoke about mentality and character, changing a little bit of the tactics," he added.
"I'm very delighted because they responded.
"I think one of the things that we wanted to improve in the team is their character.
"In the last weeks, we showed it.
"But Saturday, we didn't show it, so we wanted to show that Saturday was the exception for us."
