Peter Grant has accepted his departure from Norwich was the right move for all concerned after his 12-month tenure ended on Tuesday.
"It was a very, very difficult decision for us to make but it was right for myself and for the football club to go forward," Grant told the club's official website.
"I have had fantastic support from the board from minute one right up until the time of leaving but we are in a results-driven business and I don't like being second best at anything."
"Unfortunately for me I feel that the balls haven't bounced the right way for me over the last 12 months," he added.
"But the most important things for me have always been the supporters and the club itself.
"They are the two constants while managers and players come and go.
"For the first time in 27 years, I've got a day off away from football. But it's the best job in the world - and I want to be back in it by tonight.
"There's no better feeling in the world than getting up of a morning and going on to a football pitch and I hope to be back as soon as possible." Grant has lost no self-belief during his chastening experience.
"My results weren't good enough - and I accept that," he said.
"But I believe I have the abilities to be a good manager and hope that I can learn from the experience of this year."
