Gourlay says Chelsea now planning for Super Cup AND Club World Cup

Chelsea chief Ron Gourlay knows winning the Champions League brings with it new commitments next season.

Apart from qualifying for next season's competition, Chelsea will play in the European Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Gourlay told Chelsea TV: "Being in the Champions League is important for this club to keep progressing, we've had success over the last few years domestically and we've now had it on a European platform, but it's important we keep pushing forward.

"We can do that in all areas of the business, whether it's through commercial or the Academy. We have to keep driving forward, Financial Fair Play makes the road slightly different, but we need to keep attracting top players to the club and get the balance right with the youth. The top, elite players around the world, as well as the guys we already have, want to be playing in this competition, they want to be winning the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League so we need to be a part of that to stay with the elite.

"Yes, it means we go to Monaco at the end of August and we have a trip to Asia in December, but it's very important for the club that we continue. The fans have been fantastic, not just this season but over the last few years. We've had ups and downs, we've won trophies, but this is for them, I'm proud to be part of the team here but this helps everybody."
