Gombau has Barcelona plan for Adelaide United

Adelaide United head coach Josep Gombau is trying to implement a similar game style to Spanish champions Barcelona at his new club.

The 37-year old Catalan native has previously spent time coaching in Barcelona's youth academy and is hoping to educate his current crop of players to bring the 'tiki-taka' style of the Blaugrana to the A-League.

"Of course those top class players (at Barcelona) help a lot. In a game you may not have a solution to the problem and a player like Lionel Messi can arrive and make something out of nothing and you finish winning 3-0," Gombau said.

"But you can play the same style. The style that is to start from the back, to have the ball, to play with the team in unison and to press when you lose the ball, of course we can do that.

"We will try to keep the ball, to have the most time possible with possession, to play beautiful football, attacking football but this requires time. I am satisfied that the players are concentrating and enjoying it.

"In my first season it's more important to do this than to win games."
