Gold urges Birmingham fans to fill St Andrews for Eck debut

David Gold has urged Birmingham City's fans to make it a full house for Alex McLeish's home debut on Saturday.

And after winning at Spurs before bravely going down at Newcastle on Saturday, Gold believes supporters should give McLeish their backing at St Andrew's.

Blues now have a schedule of three home games against Reading, Middlesbrough and Fulham that could see McLeish's men lifted clear of the relegation dogfight by the New Year.

"From what I can gather, most of the fans are thrilled by Alex's arrival and I hope the supporters turn out in force for his home debut," the chairman told the Birmingham Mail.

"We want a full house and the return of any fans who've stayed away.

"I've told Alex that Blues fans are passionate about the club and that they will create a great atmosphere - so don't let me down!

"We've all discovered a new bounce in our step and we have three big home games coming up in December that are all winnable.

"I know Alex wants to take things one game at a time at the moment while he settles into the job.

"But it is possible we could secure our Premier League status this month if we put a run together.

"The fans will have had a two-week wait to greet Alex, but that's no bad thing. He's had two away games to assess the squad and I hope the Reading game will be a memorable occasion."
