Gold parting shot at new Birmingham owners

Former Birmingham City chairman David Gold has fired a parting shot at Carsen Yeung's team.

Gold admitted that he feels as if he has been jilted by a girlfriend after his 12-year reign as chairman came to an abrupt halt.

"I'm philosophical," the 72-year-old said, after declining a token role as vice-president. "I was led to believe that they wanted me to stay on. I was convinced that they were honest in their approach to me and wanted me to fulfil the role I'd fulfilled for the last 12 years.

"When I read about an ambassadorial role, I started to feel they'd had a change of heart. I was troubled. I've seen Doug Ellis [the former Aston Villa chairman], my old friend, take on such a role. You can become a meeter and greeter, getting people a drink. When I'm old, they can give me an ambassadorial role; while I'm still young, I want to be part of the process."
